HARBOUR HOUSE, BOL, ISLAND OF BRAC, CROATIA. Harbour House (accommodation 108sq.m.) is situated in Bol, on the Island of Brac, Croatia; Access to the island is easy, with visitors arriving at Split Airport and, after a taxi drive to the Harbour in Split, either taking the ferry to Supetar, Brac, where you can hire a car, or taking the 4 pm catamaran to the island that docks in Bol, just along the quayside from the house. Inexpensive return flights to Split are available through a number of airlines, departing from locations throughout the UK including Stanstead, Luton, Bristol, Gatwick etc Harbour House itself is reputedly one of the oldest houses in Bol, and is certainly one of the most picturesque situated, as it is, on the waterfront; Air-conditioned, the house has a brand new, fully-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, frig/freezer, and a full range of cupboards and kitchen equipment. The open plan dining room has a large cedarwood table and six chairs. The bathroom, with shower, has also been completely refurbished. |

The house comprises two large bedrooms with king-size beds. The
well-furnished terrace sitting room also contains a comfortable sofa-bed
that opens into two full-size single beds, one sliding out from beneath the
other. This room leads onto a spacious terrace overlooking the sea, with a
large circular cedarwood table with lazy susan in the middle, six chairs
(reclining) and a large parasol. All rooms have sea views. Because of its waterside location Bol is at certain times reminiscent of Venice as the sun, reflected from the sea, creates a rippling effect on the ceilings of the rooms through the open shutters. From the house's large terrace visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Bol and the blue, crystal clear Adriatic Sea. Centrally located, everything is near-at-hand: Waterfront bars abound; the supermarket is two minutes away; the early morning bakery is nearby, as is the small market where local people sell home grown fruit, vegetables, cheese and, on certain days, fish; 50 yards away is the Post Office. 50 yards away is the Post Office from which you can make cheap telephone calls home. Although a village, Bol is a hive of activity; First thing, the fishermen arrive to make ready their boats; then, locals begin to arrive for their morning chat and coffee; as the day progresses the visitors emerge, relaxing and lazily surveying the scene. A stroll around the harbour finds the boats that visit the local islands or sail back and forth to the Golden Horn. Later on, as evening draws in, you can relax on the comfy sofas in the shady precincts of the Cocktail Bar and gaze out to sea. When August arrives the glamourous yachts come gliding in, staying a few days and then gliding out as swiftly as they came. In Bol you can find an activity to suit most tastes, from swimming, boating, surfing, diving and snorkeling; wind-surfing, sailing, walking and banana boating at the Golden Horn (or Zlatni Rat) or, for the more adventurous, climbing the tree-covered mountainous slopes that rise up behind the village. Bol's most famous attraction is the Golden Horn, a long peninsula of sand, which is located 1 km out of Bol, emerging out of the pine woods to which you can retreat if the sun gets too hot. At lunchtime visitors can sample the splendid barbequed meat and fish that is available for sale there; The easy route to the Golden Horn is either by boat or by the small road train that trundles to and from the beach throughout the day, although there is a small local beach two minutes from the house. A little further around the coastal path is a beautiful monastery with its own sheltered beach and an excellent restaurant in a converted fisherman's house. You can walk into Harbour
