Orange Grove House, Postira,
Island of Brac, Croatia.
Orange Grove House, named after the small
citrus grove in the garden at the back of the house, is an extremely
spacious and beautiful traditional stone house set in the heart of this
lovely fishing village on the Adriatic coast; Postira is charming and
unspoilt, situated on the north-east side of the island of Brac, and
approximately 15 km from the main town and port of Supetar. Set slightly
back from the quayside, the house occupies a central position in the Riva
only a minute’s walk from the local fruit and vegetable market; supermarket
and bakery. Fresh fish can be bought from the fishermen on the quay or, if
you prefer, from the little stone fish market nearby.
Next door is the local café bar, and there are a number of other bars and
restaurants where you can relax, enjoy a good meal and settle into a more
leisurely way of life.Postira is a good place from which
to explore the island of Brac, which is famous for its rugged coastline and
its many small and secluded beaches. Especially famous, however, is the
mile long ‘Golden Cape’ beach in Bol, with its beautiful clear crystal
waters. Bol is also a windsurfer’s paradise, with its international
competitions taking place in June. |

The island is also renowned
for its fine stone from which the presidential White House in America is
built. This is an island that is rich in culture and fine architecture, and
where its warm and friendly people go out of their way to welcome you into
their way of life. With the combination of sun, sea and good food you will
certainly have a holiday with memories that will last for years to come.

Accommodation Details
The living and sleeping accommodation are on the first and second floors as,
traditionally, the ground floor was used as a cellar for wine making and
olive oil pressing. Access is via a stone staircase at the front of the
house leading to a small sunny terrace with sea views;
Once inside the house you find the
long hallway that runs the length of the house with a staircase at one end.
Immediately on your left as you enter, and overlooking the harbour, is a
large, airy, newly-fitted shower room with large washbasin and wc; next door
is a single bedroom with garden views, and further along the hallway an
extremely spacious and beautiful double bedroom with two casement windows
overlooking the garden and terrace. Also on this floor is the
kitchen/breakfast room, with a new dishwasher and washing machine, oven,
hob, fridge/freezer, cupboards, plus dining table and chairs.
From the kitchen doors lead onto a
large terrace with a dining table and seating for eight people, a part-roof
providing some shade. There is also a barbeque and a small sink with
running water. Stone steps from the terrace lead to the garden which is
mainly planted with orange trees and a kiwi vine, which climbs up and over
the terrace.
Stairs to the second floor lead to the TV room, which has two sofas in it,
one of which is a large sofa-bed. From this room a corridor leads to two
further spacious bedrooms, one with a king-size bed and views, from its two
casement windows, over the harbour; the other bedroom, spanning the width
of the house, has twin beds, a two-seater sofa and views both over the
harbour with its picturesque fishing boats, and to the rear over the
gardens. There is plenty of storage space in the house.
Recent Reviews
'A wonderful experience in a truly picturesque place.'

'Lovely old stone house in the middle of the small seaside town. Large
bedrooms but one small single [TV] room.
Kitchen was decent and a lovely alfresco dinner table. It was great for
having dinners outside. It was a great place to stay.'
